FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

what inspired you to create this blog?
to break the "vegan food is bland, boring and expensive" stereotype. lowkey also to keep myself accountable in my vegan lifestyle.

why do you write in all lowercase?i don't really know. . .seems more chill/laid back to me. i'm no pro blogger or anything, just a meltonian sharing her food on the world wide web.

what is a 'meltonian'?mell-toe-nee-an: nickname for people where i live.

are all the recipes your creations?
i would be lying, like others, if i said my recipes weren't influenced. they're pretty basic, easy and cheap, but that's the way i like it! sometimes i'll use another recipe as a base recipe, but i always credit the original when i do!

do you photograph your own pictures?
certainly do. i use a nikon D300 with a 50mm lens and shoot mainly in natural light. i have no fancy props. just the sun, my camera, and a few DIY made boards.

how did you learn to take high quality photos?

my sisters a wedding photographer so she taught me my way around a DSLR and I actually use her hand-me-down camera! the rest was through youtube and articles on the internet. you can learn so much on the internet these days!

do you do food photography for anyone else?
not yet, but it's definitely something i want to get into professionally sometime soon. if you're in my area and need some assistance, i'm happy to help!

where do you get your nutritional information from?
i use cronometer. you can use the desktop version for free, or download the app for a few bucks.

are these recipes for general people or are they low calorie, low carb, high protein etc?
i try to make my recipes as healthy, yet budget friendly, as possible. i'm on no weight-loss diet, i don't count/aim for a certain percentage of macros, i don't count calories throughout my day, i just listen to what my body needs. if i start feeling run down, i'll track my nutrients for a couple of days to see if i'm lacking anything. i give nutritional values for those doing all those things so they can log them easily. i might do a "healthy" series in the future, but for now, i'm just keeping things as simple as i can!

how do i go vegan?
this is a good resourceful website!

where can i go to learn more about veganism?
the basics you need to know can be found through watching earthings [animal rights], forks over knives [nutrition benefits] + cowspiracy [environmental impact]. some good factual speeches to watch are '101 reasons to go vegan' + 'the best speech you will ever hear' [literally is].

why should i eat plant based?
my main reason for eating plant based is because i know i can thrive and be healthy without making someone suffer for it. i understand there are some who literally cannot live without animal products, but if you absolutely can, or at least can cut down, i think you should and once you have all the knowledge it's kind of an obligation. the animals, the planet and your body are counting on it.

how do i start my own blog?
there's many tutorials you can google depending on the platform you want to use [i use blogspot]. i'm aiming to make my own tutorial soon! some simple tips are: buy a domain name [just do it, it's worth it], take high quality photo's [there's plenty of budget friendly options], make your blog neat and all your content easily accessible, and show your personality [anyone can do the above, but only YOU are you, don't hide away!].
